‘These young people are the quiet achievers who live in our own backyard doing extraordinary things that are having a positive impact on our communities and that we don’t yet know about,” says Commissioner  for Children and Young People, Helen Connolly.

“We want to feature them in the Get-Around-It showcase so that the broader community can see just how many amazing young people there are and what incredibly interesting and creative projects they are thinking, making and doing!” she added.

To launch the initiative the Commissioner and her team ‘popped up’ at three Youth Week events over three days; Rundle Malls’ Balls, SA Art Gallery’s Neo Teen Takeover event, and Parkfest in Light Square.

The Get-Around-It pop up featured a backdrop of a classic South Aussie backyard, complete with outdoor chairs and a folding ‘Hills Hoist’ style clothesline which doubles as a great photo booth. Hundreds of young people were invited to dress up and be photographed so they could help promote the showcase to their own with the message that the Commissioner is seeking young South Australian ‘Thinkers, Makers & Doers’ for inclusion. With a selection of props and costumes on hand, they decked themselves out in full backyard party gear with photos posted on CCYP’s Facebook.

If you know an inspiring young South Australian person aged 14 to 22 years you think should be nominated for inclusion send us an email to CommissionerCYP@sa.gov.au  We’d love to hear from you!
