Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to send you my final newsletter for 2023.
In the past few months, I have spoken with hundreds of children and young people in Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, and around Adelaide. I held a workshop with young people where they discussed their concerns and ideas about food sustainability resulting in a paper being sent to Australian delegates at COP28.
The Commissioner’s Digital Challenge received some really creative entries again this year. You can see this year’s top-rated entries at the Space to Dream Travelling Exhibition which is currently at the Australian Space Discovery Centre on North Terrace, Adelaide.
I have just released my annual series of reports on South Australia’s progress toward meeting recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. While there is some evidence of improvement, there are enduring issues across the seven areas of Child Health, Child Justice, Child Protection, Education, Physical Punishment, Disability, and the Environment.
I look forward to 2024 and a new cohort of SA SRC students. I am currently recruiting so please let any teenagers going into Years 10, 11 and 12 know to apply now!
All the very best for the Festive Season and New Year.
