19 primary school students and 10 SA schools have been recognised for their entries into this year’s Learn to Speak Robot (Computational thinking), Space to Dream (Design thinking), and Zoom Out (System thinking) Commissioner’s Digital Challenge.

Wallaroo Primary School and Challa Gardens Primary School are the overall winners of this year’s Learn to Speak Robot Challenge. Wallaroo Primary School has won a whole-school licence of Coding in Minecraft donated by Prodigy Learning, and Challa Gardens Primary School has won a digital media pack courtesy of Education Web Solutions. These schools were chosen by the Commissioner for their participation and demonstrated engagement in this year’s Challenges. For the full list of winners and rewards, see the CDC Website.

In the Space to Dream Challenge, the Commissioner has selected 19 student designs as the top-rated entries to be featured at the Australian Space Discovery Centre through December and January and then as part of the statewide Space to Dream Travelling Exhibition that features at participating libraries across SA throughout 2025. Jack from Coomandook Area School was chosen by the Commissioner as the top-rated design for 2024. Jack’ Hollow-Ball design is “a dome for people who want to get better at netball while they are on Mars. There will be lights in the room. They will project a hologram with little people and a little ball.”

Other designs featured in the exhibition include the Supper Spinner by Courtney and Georgia from Mundulla Primary School, Jet Board by Lani from Marree Aboriginal School, and Flybot by Manroop from Challa Gardens Primary School.

The Commissioner’s Digital Challenge is an initiative of the Commissioner Helen Connolly whose commitment to ensuring South Australian children and young people are given an inclusive digital opportunity is paramount. The free, recurring, year-round Challenge runs from January to September each year. It has been designed to ensure core ideas integral to digital empowerment are taught in fun and interactive ways, supporting students, teachers, schools, libraries, and community groups to participate with ease.
